Half best on hard day for Wattles

HALF-BACK Josh Johnson was the players’ player as Wattles went down 86-12 to Dalby in Toowoomba Rugby League A-grade at Platz Oval yesterday.

Johnson is a new recruit this season.

Brenden Wilson and Matt McCarthy scored tries and Brady Glass landed two goals.

Johnson was strong in attack and defence in his first run-on game in A-grade.

McCarthy was outstanding at centre and received good support from second rower Luke Baker.

The A-grade win by Dalby maintains its unbeaten record in the A-grade competition.

Dalby won the reserve-grade game 80-6 against Wattles.

Luke Miller scored the try and Damian McDonald landed a goal for the home side.

Miller, Alex Holihan and Ryan Nielsen were the best for Wattles.

In the under-18 game, Wattles went down 36-20 to Dalby.

Wattles prop Carl Gale was players’ player and received great support from lock Liam Ross and second rower Aaron Beckhouse.

Gale scored two tries, Ross and Tom Patterson one each. Jordan Henry landed two goals.

On Sunday, Wattles host Gatton at Platz Oval in three grades.

Some Wattles players doubled up to play two games yesterday. More players welcome to training 6.30pm tomorrow and Thursday.
