Warwick has tough game ahead

THE unbeaten Warwick/Southern Downs team needs to beat Western Downs in the 8.30am game this morning to stay on track to win its first zone 5 under-43 kilogram rugby league carnival since 1999.

This century, Wynnum has won five carnivals, Western Downs four and the 2001 title was shared by Central Downs, Wynnum and Western Downs.

Each team has two games today; Warwick is drawn to play South Burnett at 1.30pm.

Tomorrow, Warwick plays the early game against McIntyre at 8am.

Zone secretary Karen West said all the feedback about the carnival had been positive.

“There is a very friendly atmosphere at Father Ranger Oval and at each of the functions,” West said.

Wynnum won the trivia night on Tuesday.

During yesterday’s athletics carnival and footy-free day, Western Downs won the relay, Warwick the tug-o-war and Daniel Cover, of Western Downs, the sprint.
