Dodt eyes US tour card

GATTON'S Andrew Dodt will look to add another avenue to his international golf career when he shoots for a US tour card later this year.

Dodt is currently in Australia during a break from his Europe and Asia playing schedule.

Dodt has experienced a lean playing year following a ground-breaking 2010 but he is confident his game is in the right shape to turn around his fortunes on the demanding tour stage.

The 25-year-old received a welcome career boost with his win in last year's Avantha Masters in India.

The lucrative victory earned Dodt a three-year exemption on the European tour which he now hopes to bolster with a US playing ticket.

“I'm loving it in Europe,” Dodt said during a stopover at his parent's home in Gatton.

“It's fairly demanding but it's also a good lifestyle while you get to see so many sights.

“There are a lot of events in Europe, but not a lot of travelling time. The furthest flight we make is about two hours.”

Dodt is based in London where he is purchasing an apartment.

“I haven't put a good result on the board for 2011 yet but I feel like I'm hitting it better than I was last year,” Dodt said.

“I haven't putted as well as I would like and that makes the difference when you miss tournament cuts by one of two strokes. It's a fine line but I'm confident of turning it around.

“I'm very keen to keep my Europe card for 2013 but I'm also doing the US PGA Q-school again this year.”

Dodt finished 10th last year on the Australian order of merit which earns him entry into this year's major Australian events.

“I hope to make it back for the Masters in December,” Dodt said.
