Lengthy delays at Head Rd
AN important thoroughfare has been closed at The Head since the Australia Day floods and the gravel detour into New South Wales has not impressed tourists.
Flood repair works on the Head Rd started earlier this month.
A traveller to the Southern Downs, Peter Lee said he was in Killarney and planned on visiting his family in Boonah.
"There were no signs up anywhere in Killarney to say road conditions had changed," Mr Lee said.
"When we got to the bottom of Spring Creek Rd a worker told us the road was closed and the detour wasn't suitable for my car."
Scenic Rim Regional Council said the works on the road are to be completed by late December 2013.
"Within the Scenic Rim region, Carneys Creek Rd is suitable for all vehicles, provided they drive to the conditions."
The spokesman said council installed road detour signs when the Head Rd was first closed at the beginning of the year.
"We'd like everyone to know we acknowledge the impact of this road closure and we are working as quickly as possible to re-open the popular tourist route."
