Let's reward excellence with a sports star nomination
SPORTS STARS: Nominations are welcome for the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Sports Star awards.
The awards recognise athletic success in the Warwick, Killarney, Allora, Clifton, Inglewood and Texas area.
Athletes under 18 years can be nominated for the junior sports awards.
The senior awards are for athletes, including coaches, 18 years and older.
Monthly winners turning 18 in 2018 are not eligible to win a senior award in the same year as a junior award.
The monthly winners are finalists for the awards, which will be announced at functions early next year.
The junior awards are being held for the 26th year and Warwick Credit Union and Daily News have been sponsors from the start.
The senior awards started one year later so next year's awards night will be the 25th.
Hockey Olympian Dean Butler was the first junior winner in the sports awards and shooter Greg Newey was the first senior winner.
Butler won Olympic gold 11 years after his junior sports win in Warwick.
Monthly winners to captain Australia include Laura Geitz and Clare McMeniman (netball), Stephanie Hancock (rugby league) and Cameron Shepherd (polocrosse).
Volunteer nominations welcome
THE Daily News and Condamine Sports Club also work together on the Condamine Sports Club Volunteer of the Year award.
The award is judged half on volunteer work in the 2018 year and half on work in previous years in all sports.
Earlier this year, Kerri Fitch, from hockey, volleyball and Little Athletics, was the top volunteer.
The winner of the award receives a $500 Condamine Sports Club cheque, which is presented to the club that nominates the volunteer.
Nominations will close in late January and are accepted on a first in, first served basis.
Volunteer nominations are limited as there is a limit of 200 people at the awards night.
