Libby to lose locks for cure

THE countdown has begun for Libby Brown as she prepares to the shave her thick golden locks for a cure.

The Warwick State High School Year 10 student will go under the razor this Thursday in support of the Leukaemia Foundation World's Greatest Shave.

Libby said she hoped her contribution would help make a difference for people living with cancer.

"I decided to shave my head because we have three relatives in the family who had cancer but it is more than that, it's about helping others so they can have a second chance at life," Libby said.

"So far I've raised about $600, my original goal was $500, but now I'm hoping to raise about $800."

Libby said she knows it will feel different once her hair is gone.

"I will feel light-headed," she said.

"It will be different afterwards, maybe even a little daunting at first but it will be worth it.

Libby said she will not be the only student shaving for a cure.

The other WSHS shave participants are Joe Manwaring, Hayden Haidley, Brayden O'Donnell, Chris Wall, Lauren Rampling, Cathy Emerson, Drew Wheeldon, Eddie Dwan, Scotty McEwen, and maths teacher Mr Hefferen.

An auction will be held at WSHS on Wednesday and the highest bidder could win the chance to shave Libby's locks.

Mum Trudi Brown said she has supported her daughter's decision from the very beginning.

"This is something we have been talking about for a while now, probably since January," Mrs Brown said.

WSHS community service leader Alison Burrill said it is great what her school mates are doing.

"They are doing it for a good cause and will be helping those affected by blood cancers," she said.

"We've been raising money around the school and will also have students waxing and colouring their hair on Thursday."
