Library’s new online playground
SOUTHERN Downs residents now have access to an online service providing full digital access to a number of Australian and international magazines either from their own computer, via council's website, or through PCs in their local library.
Principal librarian Samantha Shelbourn said the online service was called Zinio and would provide ready and easy access to a range of publications including fashion and lifestyle titles (such as Vogue Australia, Wellbeing & GQ), crafts and hobbies (including patchwork, beading, photography and renovating), sports such as golf, cycling, surfing and skateboarding and an interactive version of National Geographic Traveler, and more.
"We are also pleased to announce that we are now offering online access to Universal Class and Transparent Language Online for Libraries.
"Universal Class provides library members with access to hundreds of online, self-paced, adult education courses in a wide range of topics including computers, business, health, parenting and self-development, and homeschooling support.
"Transparent Language Online for Libraries (TLO) is a language-learning system featuring over 80 languages, as well as ESL (English as a Second Language) courses for those learning English.
"There are 56 local government
library services in Queensland and our service is in the top 10 for bringing the most modern online access to local communities."
