LifeFlight helicopter makes early morning rescue on Granite Belt

THE LifeFlight helicopter made an early morning trip to the Southern Downs this morning after an emergency call came through at about 3.40am.

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to a stranded hiker who had fallen over and broken his ankle at Sundown National Park.

Due to the unknown location of the hiker they were put on standby for a winch retrieval at first light.

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter arrived at Sundown National Park at approximately 5.30am. 

It is believed the hiker was walking in the area when he fell over and broke his ankle.
