Lifeguard rescuing us from unhealthy habits
MOST young women who spend time at the beach have a tan in mind.
For 24-year-old Hannah Raftery of Clothiers Creek, it's about saving lives.
The Cabarita Beach lifeguard takes her job very seriously.
But health is also at the top of her agenda.
"I'm incredibly passionate about helping others achieve good health," she said.
Hannah is also a personal trainer.
Like her role as life guard, she believes in prevention.
"I'm always on the look out so we can avoid a rescue at all costs," she said.
"You never want it to get to that stage.
"You have to have eyes like a hawk and always be on the alert."
She started out as a nipper at Cabarita Beach Surf Life Saving Club and knew at an early age she had a vocation in life to help others.
"When it comes to staying fit and healthy, many people lack motivation," she said.
"As a personal trainer I try to motivate for them and take them in the right direction."
Hannah is also passionate about diet.
"I'm a stickler for organic food," she said.
"If it's not from the earth, don't put it in your mouth."
She plans to create boot camps specifically for women.
"I want to create a community of women whose lives are based around a healthy lifestyle," she said.
"What better place to do that than Cabarita?
"It's a paradise."
Hannah has no tolerance for fad diets.
"Using pills and food that isn't really food is crazy," she said.
"If it's not from nature, it's just not for you."
With two jobs to juggle, Hannah is also studying for a degree in exercise science and nutrition.
"There's so much more to learn," she said.
"My study may open doors in the future.
"It also helps me to educate my clients."
