LIGHTNING STRIKES: Storm rolls over Toowoomba region

GUSTS of wind up to 57kmh buffeted Toowoomba as a storm brought lightning - but not much rain - to the city overnight.

Rain started falling about 12.50am today in Toowoomba, after a storm system moved east through Oakey.

The system had formed near Millmerran and moved through Cecil Plains and into Oakey, with the edge just scrapping Toowoomba.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Dean Narramore said about 10mm of rain fell just north of Oakey.

He said while there was plenty of lightning, the storm wasn't as strong as the previous day.

Toowoomba missed out on rain, with only 0.4mm recorded at Toowoomba Aerodrome.

The lightning woke up some residents in Oakey.

‎Lee-Anne Armstrong‎ took to social media writing: "Getting some 'crackerlacking' thunder in Oakey.

"(It's) now raining again.

"(I) nearly fell out of bed with one crack - teenagers just came into the bedroom."

At about 1am Amy Turner reported the storm was moving over Murphys Ck.

Another system had formed earlier in the night at Texas, moving through Stanthorpe and Warwick.

More storms are forecast for the region tonight and tomorrow.
