Lights a lift for drivers
ZARRAFFA'S franchisee and staff are pleased their hard work has paid off and earned them the title of best business in the Warwick Daily News Christmas Light competition.
Franchisee Tracey Slater said they had to bring the display in at night and put it out in the morning after vandals stole and destroyed parts of it.
Ms Slater, whose business opened in January last year, said it was the first time they had entered in the competition.
"The guys are ecstatic," she said. "They have all been involved.
"It was a team thing."
Ms Slater said employee Craig Lamb was the man behind the giraffes.
Mr Lamb said the idea came to him when they were planning the display.
"I said why not have giraffes instead of reindeer pulling the sleigh," he said.
Mr Lamb made and painted the giraffes himself.
"I knocked these ones out in about three days," he said.
Annie Ompoc said Mr Lamb was very talented.
Ms Slater said the light display had proved popular amongst truck drivers.
"We had a lot of truck drivers stop and say it was good to see people getting into the spirit of it," she said.
"It was a bit of fun and it got all the staff involved."
Ms Slater said it would be good to see other businesses putting up lights next year.
It is not too late to catch a glimpse of the other light displays around Warwick.
The award for the best house went to 69 Law Rd and the best neighbours to 3 and 5 Gibson Rd.
People's choice winner was 123 Bisley St for its choreographed light display.
