MADELINE Robinson is now sharing her playpen with two new friends, Sassy and Annie the African lion cubs.

The three-week-old cubs were born at the Darling Downs Zoo in October, in two separate litters.

Sassy was one of a litter of three to mother Delilah and Annie was the only cub to lioness Irene.

When Annie's mother wasn't taking care of her, Zoo owners Steve and Stephanie Robinson made the decision to hand raise the cub and Sassy was taken from her mother as a companion for the lone cub.

Mrs Robinson is playing the mother role to the cubs, rising every three hours at night to feed the cubs their specially formulated milk.

The animals were presented to the public on November 3 and are now on display at the zoo.
