Little athletes hits the track this Sunday for new season
ATHLETICS: Children aged three to 17 are welcome to come and try little athletics on Sunday at Hamilton Oval.
The first centre day of the season is at 3pm at Hamilton Oval and all are welcome to two free trials to decide if they want to join up for Sunday afternoon competitions.
Sarah Jenner is centre manager and said all children can compete in runs, throws, jumps and walks (from six years).
"We will be at Hamilton Oval each Sunday from 3pm to 5pm and will continue during the September/October school holidays,” she said.
"Children will get the chance to go to the regionals and can aim to qualify for the state championships,” she said.
Many parents have gone to introduction to coaching courses and will help out. State medal winner Nat Webb has signed up as a coach.
Aiden Johnston is in his second season with the Warwick Little Athletics Centre and lists long jump and high jump as his favourites.
Zac Jenner goes into his sixth season of little athletics with three regional medals to his credit and one year at state championships.
"I like the walk, discus and shot best,” he said.
Children unable to be at the oval this week can go on future Sundays to check out little athletics and sign up.
Many children also use little athletics as training for the school athletics program which is hotting up with regional and state championships later this term.
