Little Crunch takes a second bite at life

MEET Crunch.

He may be small but this little character has a huge personality - making it hard to believe that just two weeks ago he was a pound pooch at the Animal Welfare League in Ipswich.

After being given a second lease on life by headspace Warwick manager Sophia McLucas, Crunch has jumped into his new role as a therapy dog in leaps and bounds.

Mrs McLucas said the loveable little dog was fitting in well and had easily won over the hearts of the headspace team.

"He loves everybody - he's just really happy and loving his new life here," she said.

"We're currently trying to get him used to the place and settled in."

As a therapy dog, Crunch will spend his time with headspace clients and giving them a little bit of extra joy in their lives.

"His job is to make people calm and at home," Mrs McLucas said.

"He's been sleeping on the couch next to clients during sessions - he's perfect for the job."

As the first pet for the headspace centre in Warwick, Crunch takes the special role of a companion at home with Mrs McLucas on his days off.

"A lot of other centres do have pets and we thought having a pet would be perfect seeing as we're a rural centre and most people have a dog," she said.

"When he settles in we'll take him round to places such as school visits."

If you're a young person on the Southern Downs and having issues or would like to speak to a member of the headspace team and meet Crunch, phone the headspace Warwick office on 4661 1999.
