Little Mail Carriers tour the town

MEET Paulo and Ana, the pint-sized mascots of an international postcard phenomenon which has come all the way to Coffs Harbour.

The tiny ambassadors of Postcrossing, known as the Little Mail Carriers, have already seen Slovenia, The Netherlands, America, Taiwan and Spain on their global trip.

Their local host, Geoff Reynolds, will introduce them to Mayor Keith Rhoades on Friday to get their well-worn passports signed.

“You sign up to send and receive postcards at random,” Mr Reynolds (alias Smileyfflagge) said of the Postcrossing craze.

“You click on a registration number which brings up a name and address and then send them a postcard.

“When you send one, your registration number goes to the top of the list, so the more you send the more you receive.”

Mr Reynolds said he did not know where Paulo and Ana would go next or when but a letter would come with a name and address and he would post them on.

He and fellow Postcrossing fan Glennis Tracey will take the mascots on a town tour including Bruxner Park, the Bunker Cartoon Gallery and the Big Banana.

Tourist happy snaps are a must to update the mascots’ whereabouts online to the nearly 250,000 Postcrossing members (from 205 countries).

Ms Tracey said she had about 3000 postcards in her collection.

“Even though I have so many postcards, I still get excited when one turns up in the mail,” she said.

Since Postcrossing was founded in 2005, a monumental 7,785,301 (and climbing) postcards have been sent and the mileage accumulated equals more than 55,000 return trips to the moon.
