Queensland Day: lots to love about our great state

THERE'S a lot to love about the great state of Queensland and today Southern Downs residents are being encouraged to don their best maroon gear and celebrate being Queenslander.

Today marks Queensland Day, a day of celebration of our official separation from New South Wales.

While there are no official events on the Southern Downs, there's plenty of appreciation from residents for our great state

Mayor Peter Blundell said Queensland had always been home for him.

"For me I love the friendly, relaxed and country lifestyle," he said.

"There's a very friendly atmosphere - people give a mate a hand and say g'day in the streets."
