Local cricket derby on at Slade Park on Sunday
CRICKET: Jason Steketee and Dave Walker are captains of the Warwick representative cricket teams to play Stanthorpe on Sunday.
The Mitchell Shield game will be at Slade Park and will be crucial to both sides.
In a competition with three teams, two will make the final.
Lockyer beat Warwick in the first game of the competition so Stanthorpe only has to beat Warwick to secure a final spot.
On the other hand, Warwick needs to win and win well to make sure of a finals spot.
If Warwick wins on Sunday and Lockyer beats Stanthorpe in the final round game on February 18, Lockyer will host the final against Warwick.
If Stanthorpe beats Warwick on Sunday and beats Lockyer on February 18, Stanthorpe will host the final against Lockyer.
Steketee has been the regular Warwick Mitchell Shield captain in recent seasons but missed the game against Lockyer and Michael Bourke was skipper.
Redbacks batsman Coen Slatter scored a half century in one of the high points for Warwick in round 1.
Stanthorpe made the final of the Mitchell Shield competition last season before going down to Lockyer.
The two games on Sunday will be for the Bourke Hendry trophies.
Warwick has official Davis Shield games on February 4 and February 18 in a three-team competition with Toowoomba and Lockyer.
This Sunday's game at Mayhew Oval will be a good warm up for the Warwick team but pride will be at stake as the game is a Bourke Hendry Trophy match played for annually by Davis Shield teams.
Walker captained the Warwick Davis Shield team into last year's final against Toowoomba and has put his hand up to again guide a team of young cricketers in the representative arena.
The Davis Shield is designed for cricketers under the age of 23 with support from two more experienced cricketers.
Both games start at 9am Sunday.
Spectators welcome to watch the cricket at Slade Park from the comfort of the air conditioned clubhouse.
There will be no Warwick club cricket this weekend.
Thirty teams have nominated for the Condamine Sports Club Australia Day Cricket Carnival on January 26-28.
