Local derby on in Warwick and district juniors on Saturday

RUGBY LEAGUE: Warwick clubs Eastern Suburbs and Collegians Blue will meet in Saturday's Warwick and District Junior Rugby League under-14 preliminary final at Risdon Oval.

Collegians is hosting the preliminary finals in three junior rugby league age groups and two girls' leaguetag age groups at the rugby union fields on Saturday.

Major and minor semi-finals were held at Sullivan and Crisp ovals at Stanthorpe on Saturday.

In the two final matches of the days, Collegians Blue defeated Collegains White 24-20 in under-16 boys. In the under 17 years girls leaguetag major semi final, Tenterfield defeated Goondiwindi 16-4.

Stanthorpe Gremlins president Lindsay Adams said he was happy with semi-final day.

"Everything went to expectations and the weather held off,” Adams said.

"It didn't rain to the last five minutes of the last games.”

"We barely had our first aid officers on the field. We had a lot of favourable comments about the good condition of the fields.

"The girls leaguetag semis went well.”

This season is the first year two leaguetag grades have been played, under-14 years and U17 years. Grand finals on September 8 in Goondiwindi.

SEMI SCORES: Under-12 boys: MIT Jets d Wattles 10-0, Collegians d Goondiwindi 22-4.

U14 boys: Collegians Blue d Tenterfield 22-10, Goondiwindi d Eastern Suburbs 66-4.

U14 girls leaguetag: Collegians d Wattles 32-0, Tenterfield d MIT Jets 24-4.

U16 boys: Goondiwindi d Stanthorpe 24-12, Collegians Blue d Collegians White 24-20.

Under 17 girls leaguetag: Wattles d MIT Jets 28-8, Tenterfield d Goondiwindi 16-4.
