Local snappers can boost tourism
TALENTED photographers who entered their work in the photography section at the Warwick Show this year could be in for an additional surprise.
Marketing manager for Destination Southern Downs Izelle Barnard and Warwick Visitor Information Centre volunteer and photography steward Janet Platz assessed the images on Saturday in search of quality pictures that could be used to market our region.
Mrs Barnard said she was very impressed by the number of great hobby photographers and professionals we have in the region who submitted some fabulous photos.
"I feel it is time to recognise our local talent and there is no better advocated for tourism than the people that live here, love it and can tell a story through their photos," she said.
"There were a few pieces that really stood out of typical tourist attractions that were taken from unique angles."
Just finishing the compilation of photos for the current Southern Downs and Granite Belt Official Visitor Guide, Mrs Barnard said there was a need for newer images to promote the region.
She said many entries in the photography competition had sparked her interest.
"Janet and I also came up with a few ideas to increase and better the range of the competition next year and hope to introduce a number of new categories which will inspire photographers to submit work specifically to be used in marketing material."
In the meantime if anyone has photos they would like to share for tourism purposes they can tag them on Instagram #southerndowns@ southerndownsandgranite belt.
