Local winners at Allora
CAMPDRAFTING: About 800 nominations were welcomed at the 2017 Allora and District Campdraft Association annual campdraft at the weekend.
Organisers said the event turned out to be a great weekend this year after being postponed from its original start date due to the deluge from the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie.
ADCA member Angela Hart said the competition kicked off from midday on Friday and wrapped up late Sunday afternoon.
She said a number of local riders performed well in the drafts.
"Felton rider Darryl Hayward won the Dwan Drilling and Water Services Maiden B Campdraft,” Hart said.
"The winner of the Gordon Country Juvenile draft was Charlotte Widderick from Stanthorpe and her older sister Hannah Widderick took out the Clearview Equine Junior Draft.”
Ms Hart said the quality of riders and horses the club was attracting was on the rise.
She said $30,000 grant was won by the Allora Show Society and they worked closely with the association enabling a new crusher dust surface to the arena.
"The product was supplied by Hutchison Quarries and leveled by F G Loy & Sons Earthmoving of Warwick,” Hart said.
"Both these contractors supplied their services and at very competitive prices.
"A water truck was supplied for the weekend by Grainx which assisted in maintaining the surface.”
The ADCA committee funded a new camp which was built by Geoff Grant Stockyards and by midday Friday were under way with a full program of events which continued over the weekend.
"We couldn't run the draft without our cattle donors,” she said.
"This year major cattle donor was West Talgai Feedlot with other contributions from John and Mary Ryan, Phillip Christensen and Roc McLennan.
"Sponsors for the event were generous with their support allowing riders go away with great prizes and prize money.”
