Locals invited to join state event

MORE than 100 orienteers from across south-east Queensland are expected to compete in the state standard orienteering event being conducted at Marylands, outside Stanthorpe, this Sunday. The local orienteering club, the Bullecourt Boulder Bounders, will be hosting the event on the Dalmoak property.

Most of Queensland's top ranked orienteers will be competing at Sunday's event in 13 courses, ranging in length from 12.3km down to 2.4km. The age groups will range from the under 10s to the over 75s. Local people who would like to try out the sport are most welcome to come along to Sunday's event.

As well as the courses which have been set for experienced orienteers, there will also be short, easy ones available for beginners who have not tried orienteering before.

Instruction on the basic map reading and navigational skills will be available and compasses may be borrowed at the event.

The event will be open from 9-11am, assembly area can be accessed off Maryland Road by following signs from Ridge Road off the New England Highway at The Summit. For further information phone 4683 6374 or go to www.oq.asn.au
