Lions Club river walk unites in Disability Action Week

IT may have been a grey morning, but 300 participants in the Lions Club river walk were nothing but bright and bubbly as they strolled the banks of the Condamine River yesterday.

Led by bagpipes, students from Scots PGC College, Warwick High School and Warwick Glennie Heights, East and West State Schools joined healthcare workers and people with a disability in the community for the river walk to celebrate Disability Action Week.

A member of the Disability Action Week committee said he was pleased to see so many people take part in the event.

"Participants carried helium filled balloons with them during the walk," he said.

"The yellow and orange colour of the balloons were specifically chosen to signify the friendship and connectedness within our community."

Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Peter Blundell acknowledged the contributions of people with a disability make in the community.

Warwick will cap off its Disability Action Week activities tonight with a Shimmy Shimmy Shake and Sing community dance at St Mary's Hall from 6.30.
