Storm cell causes havoc in region

POLICE were called in to monitor traffic through Dalveen's slippery roads yesterday afternoon when a strong storm tore through the area.

Reports said one car travelling at 10km/hr slid off the road and into a tree.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jonty Hall said it was an unusually long lasting storm cell.

"It lasted for about five hours and travelled about 200km," he said.

"The storm started south-west of Inglewood and went through Stanthorpe and dissipated just past Killarney.

"It was certainly the strongest storm of the day and I'm not surprised it dumped a lot of hail."

There were also several weaker storms in the eastern Downs area last night.

Mr Hall said there would be no storms around today.

"It will fine (today) and for the rest of the week," he said.
