Lowndes receives medal from personal mentor Peter Brock

CRAIG Lowndes has received a boost on the eve of the 2013 V8 Supercars season, yesterday named the winner of the 2012 Peter Brock medal.

Developed to recognise drivers who show similar character to the still-revered late Bathurst legend, Lowndes was recognised for 'outstanding driver ability and commitment to the positive endorsement of motor sport within the greater community'.

Given his close connection with Brock, Lowndes, a three-time V8 Supercars champion and five-time Bathurst winner, said he was thrilled to receive the award.

"Peter Brock was not only a personal mentor of mine, but his positive attitude to life was an inspiration to so many people, right across the Australian community," Lowndes said.

Lowndes will chase his fourth drivers championship when the 2013 season kicks off with the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide this weekend.

With all competitors in 2013 to race under the 'Car of the Future' specifications, the entire field will be made up of new cars.

Of the 28 entries, 15 will be VF Commodores, six will be Ford Falcon GFs, four will be Nissan Altimas and three will be Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs.
