Lucy wins bronze at Brisbane carnival
CRICKET: Warwick player Lucy Bourke will return to club cricket on Saturday after winning a bronze medal with the Queensland 12 years girls' team in Brisbane.
She won player of the match in the second game with 46 off 49 balls in a Queensland win against Western Australia.
In all, Queensland played five games and recorded wins against Western Australia, South Australia and the ACT.
At age 10, Lucy was the youngest member of the Queensland team and batted at No. 5. In one game, she was dismissed by Victorian swing bowler Jasmine Fleming, the daughter of retired Test paceman and Big Bash commentator Damien Fleming.
She bowled three overs in the carnival and conceded five runs.
Lucy will be eligible to aim for the Queensland team for the next two years. In 2017, the national carnival will be in Canberra and Lucy will need to impress at the regional trials and the state championships in Bundaberg to make the Queensland team for a second time.
Before the nationals, she scored 43 off 56 balls for Warwick in boys inter-town U12 cricket against Western Downs after batting the whole innings to score 36 not out for Darling Downs in a winning effort in girls state cricket.
She impressed the Queensland coaching staff with her running between wickets, a legacy of speed which took her to the nationals in athletics.
Lucy was second at the track and field nationals as part of the Queensland four by 100m relay. She was the first runner and had her team close to the lead.
She won the award for the outstanding female athlete at the Darling Downs 10-12 years championships.
In the past year, she made five Southern Downs teams.
