Mac makes two teams in AFL

WARWICK player Mac Lang has been chosen for not one, but two Darling Downs AFL representative teams this week.

Lang, who is 15 and recently started school in Toowoomba, was selected last week for the Darling Downs under-16 AFL representative team, which travels to Rockhampton in May for the state titles.

A day after his U16 selection, Lang was selected for the Darling Downs U15 schoolboy’s team, which will travel to Bundaberg later this year.

Last season, Lang was given the opportunity by the Redbacks AFL club to do some gruelling training with the senior side.

“It was a great chance to see how hard the senior blokes work and just how much running they do at training,” Lang said.

In the off season, Redbacks skipper and AFL Darling Downs fairest and best Brendan Iles worked with Lang to improve his overall strength and fitness.

As a personal trainer at WIRAC, fitness is something that is close to Iles’ heart.

Iles said Lang was given support by senior Redbacks coach, Peter “Burra” Millard, and the players last season which he really loved.

“It just shows in the right environment there’s certainly plenty of opportunity for regional juniors to transition through representative teams and mix it with the best the state has to offer,” Iles said.

The Redbacks start their home and away season on April 10 at Slade Park.
