WARWICK rider Michael Maher is near the top of the standings in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association after a win in the saddle bronc on the first day of the Bowen River Rodeo.

He scored 83 to win from fellow Warwick rider Mark Collins who was equal second on 74 with Allan Powell from Springsure.

Collins was equal second with John McNamee and Clayton Braden behind winner Greg Hamilton in the second saddle bronc event of the weekend at Bowen River.

Swanfels rider Lane Grayson won the second-division saddle bronc at Bowen River.

Warwick rider Peel Tribe bucked off at Bowen River after a fifth at Nebo and equal fourth with Jason Crawford in Bundaberg.
