Major fight night planned at WIRAC in September

BOXING: Up to 30 fights will be on the program at the Warwick Boxing Club Fight Night at WIRAC on September 24.

Club member Andrew Jones said the night would be one of the biggest fight nights to be held in Warwick.

"The fights will match a wide variety of boxers, including some state champions and masters boxers," Jones said.

"Some members of the Rose City Boxing Club will compete on the night along with Warwick Boxing Club members and boxers from across Queensland and New South Wales."

Warwick boxer Chris Fox has competed interstate in recent years and will be in one of the masters fights.

His son Brodie is likely to be matched on the night.

Jake Wyllie won a state golden gloves title in week ago and is one of the Rose City boxers expected to compete.

Jones said the club was expecting a crowd in excess of 500.

"This will be first official fight night the club has held at WIRAC," Jones said.

"Most of the fights will be over three rounds."

Juniors will predominately fight over three two-minute rounds and seniors over three three-minute rounds.

The Warwick Boxing Club has run a fitness program for the past decade along with boxing training at the club gym in Albert St.

There may be some girls fights on the night if matches can be arranged.

The night will be held under the rules of the Queensland Amateur Boxing Association.

Tickets will be on sale at the door at WIRAC on September 24.
