Make sure to check bedroom safety
FAMILIES taking children on holidays over Easter are reminded to make sure kids have a safe spot to rest their heads.
If bunk beds are on offer at your holiday spot, check they are safe for your little ones.
Office of Fair Trading product safety expert Dave Strachan said while there were current safety standards in place for bunk beds, old bunk beds still in use in short-term rental accommodation could put children at risk.
"According to Queensland Injury Surveillance Unit figures, approximately 450 people visit Queensland hospital emergency departments each year due to bunk bed related injuries," Mr Strachan said.
"Eighty-five per cent of these injuries were the result of a fall from a bunk bed, with most injuries suffered by children aged five to nine years old."
It is recommended that only children over nine years old use bunk beds, and allow two metres between beds and ceiling fans.
Don't let kids play on beds and ensure the ladder is fixed to the bunk bed.
