Gourmet pizza now in Warwick

THE smell of homemade pizza will be wafting out of the doors to Warwick's newest pizza shop from today.

Homemade dough, topped with the finest ingredients and turned into 26 different pizzas is what the Vaticano family believes will set them apart from all other Warwick pizza shops.

That and the ribs.

Husband and wife Nick and Barbara-Jean, along with Michael, Jason and Matthew, said they were hoping for big numbers when they throw open their doors today.

"It feels great to finally open - we've been waiting for a while," Mr Vaticano said.

"We were hoping to be open before but for various reasons it had to be pushed back."

The opening date couldn't have been better timing, with homeward-bound holiday-goers making the trip back and traffic through Warwick at its thickest.

Their shop is conveniently located at the corner of Albion and Wood Sts, offering highway frontage for passers-by.

Mr Vaticano said he also hoped the weekend remained busy.

"Friday and Saturday are the typical take-away days, so hopefully that will be the same this weekend," he said.

"Although we do offer tables and chairs for dining in as well."

The Vaticano family has had a pizza business in Stanthorpe for the past six years, and decided it was time to expand.

The family said they chose to open a second shop in Warwick when they saw there was an opportunity for gourmet-style pizza.

"We also had customers from Warwick encouraging us to expand," Mr Vaticano said.

"The shop next to Hungry Jacks is in a great position and both businesses will complement each other, giving customers a choice."

Mrs Vaticano added it would suit families whose decisions were split on where to stop for lunch. They said there had already been enquiries from people about when the ribs would be on offer.

"There's been a bit of interest which has been good," Mr Vaticano said.

"Apart from pizza, our other speciality is slow-cooked American-style pork ribs, which are sauced with our secret sauces."

The Pizza and Ribs Place will be open Tuesday-Thursday 4pm-9pm and Friday-Sunday 12pm-9pm.

There are two part-time vacant positions for staff which would suit a school student and a second person with more experience in hospitality.
