Stanthorpe man faces assault charge after fight with friend

A STANTHORPE man has been charged with assault after an alleged knife attack on another man.

Murray Garden Motel guests called police about 7.30pm on Saturday following claims of a fight.

Witnesses told police a man armed with a knife had attacked people and had fled before police arrived.

Another man, who police said was known to the accused, received slashes to his face and arms but declined medical and police assistance.

He also declined to make an official complaint in relation to his injuries.

The motel owner was also harmed during the incident and lodged an official complaint resulting in an assault charge.

Police were then called to a residence in Archibald St about 8.30pm following reports a man was trying to smash his way into the home.

A heavily intoxicated 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with the earlier assault.

He was also charged with wilful damage and public nuisance.

The man is due to appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court during the next sittings on October 28.
