Hunt on for stolen car after alleged thief beats elderly man

UPDATE: Police investigating the assault of an elderly man in Brightview this morning are seeking assistance to locate a vehicle possibly linked to the incident.

The 64-year-old was assaulted while he was at a tavern on Brightview Rd after a man was attempting to break into an ATM.

Police are seeking assistance to locate a silver 2007 Suzuki Swift (similar to the one pictured) stolen from Stanford Place in Laidley at 4.30am.

The car has zip ties on the front left bumper and Queensland Registration 659-KDS.

Police are also need to locate a dark coloured jacket, dark coloured pants, a pair of welding gloves and a metal bar the man may have discarded around the Brightview Tavern or in the Laidley area.

Anyone who has located any of the items are being asked not to touch the items but to contact police immediately.

Investigations are continuing.

 

Man bashed after interrupting ATM thief

EARLIER: Detectives are investigating the serious assault of a man at a country hotel early this morning.

Police were called about 3.25am with reports a man had been assaulted at a tavern on Brightview Road, Brightview.

Initial investigations indicate that the man went to the tavern after an alarm was activated.

When he arrived, he was assaulted by a man with a metal pole who was trying to break into an automatic teller machine.

The man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Investigations are continuing.
