Man caught driving over 40km/h over limit on highway

A STANTHORPE man was fined over $1200 for driving 121km/h in an 80km/h zone on Sunday night.

The 24-year-old was driving along the Cunningham Highway near Womina when Warwick road police intercepted him at 6.10pm.

Police attended a truck rollover an hour earlier that night at the Eight Mile intersection.

Officer-in-charge Shane Gleeson pleaded with drivers to obey the speed limit and be aware of wet weather road safety.

"Given that last night it was raining on and off, drivers have to be aware of road conditions and drive to those conditions accordingly," Sgt Gleeson said.

The man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for $1244.
