Man charged with attempted rape after toilet block attack
EARLIER: A 43-year-old Stanthorpe man has been charged with attempted rape and deprivation of liberty after an armed attack on a 28-year-old woman.
Stanthorpe police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said the man had offered to take the woman on a sightseeing tour of Storm King Dam, south-east of the town.
He said the attack occurred in a toilet block at the dam about 1pm last Thursday.
"She went in her own car," Sen Sgt Ireland said.
"He met her out there.
"She had known him for a very short time."
He said the woman sustained a minor cut on her arm from a knife used by the man.
Police were able to track the offender after the woman provided his vehicle registration details.
He was arrested and charged on Saturday afternoon.
He remained in custody over the weekend and was due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court this morning.
