Man charged over car thefts

AN alleged car thief cut his teeth for stolen cars during a 100m joy-ride, embarking on a spate of pilfering before being nabbed by police a short time later.

A Warwick Police spokesman said a series of cars were stolen from Warwick properties some time during Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

“A 21-year-old Warwick man was arrested and charged on Wednesday with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing,” the spokesman said.

“He will appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court on May 5.”

The spokesman said the vehicle spree started when a resident noticed his car had been unlawfully driven 100m from its original car park on Deconlay Street.

The other crimes were committed on Gore Street.

“Someone had attempted to gain entry into the vehicle but they were unsuccessful,” the spokesman said.

“The offenders then stole a white sedan from the same residence and it was located at Toomela in New South Wales. Investigations are continuing into a second offender.”
