Man found facedown in surf at Bondi Beach in critical condition

A man is in critical condition after being found floating face down in the water at Bondi Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were reportedly called to the southern end of the Sydney beach at around 5.15pm after the 26-year-old man was spotted in the surf by lifeguards.

The lifeguards pulled the man into the shore where they commenced CPR.

He was later taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he remains in Intensive Care this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a hazardous surf warning yesterday morning for the Sydney Coast, Illawarra Coast, Hunter Coast, Batemans Coast and Eden Coast, which is still in place today.

People in these areas have been advised by NSW police to "consider staying out of the water".

Police are currently investigating the incident.
