Car split in two as man killed after police pursuit
A 35-year-old man has died after crashing into a tree following a police pursuit in Sydneyâ€™s west.
The incident occurred just after 10pm in Leonay on Saturday night when police chased him after he failed to stop at a random breath testing site on the Great Western Highway at Lapstone.
The car was split in two from the crash after the impact of hitting a tree on the side of the M4.
Police had already stopped the pursuit when the vehicle left the road and collided with the tree.
The driver was taken to Nepean Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A critical incident investigation has been launched.
