Man killed in workplace accident

A MAN has been killed in a tragic workplace accident at Yatala in the city's north.

The 22-year-old worker is believed to have been operating a cherry picker at the Spectrapave site around 10.30am when he was injured.

The man suffered critical chest and abdomen injuries.

More than five paramedic crews, including a critical care unit and the high acuity response unit, responded to the Link Drive construction site.

Despite performing CPR on the man for almost an hour, he could not be revived.

A Workplace Health and Safety spokesman said an officer was on scene and investigating how the incident occurred.

Police are also on scene.

Union workers on the Spectrapave site said they felt helpess for the young man.

"It's not easy to deal with. Mate you don't expect that to happen," the CFMEU man said.
