Man suffers extensive burns in Gold Coast explosion

A MAN suffered severe burns to his body after an explosion at a townhouse at Robina early on Tuesday morning.

Police said that around 5am the man attended the Robina Hospital seeking medical assistance.

Police were later called and attended the man's Killarney Avenue townhouse where it is believed an explosion had occurred in the garage area of the home.

Some media reports suggested it may have been a drug lab explosion or a gas bottle.

One report said the garage door had almost been blown out.

Police have established a crime scene and are continuing to investigate the incident.
