Manure needed for community garden
THE Whistle Stop Heritage and Community Garden needs manure, and lots of it, for our compost-making process.
We can come and collect it, but would prefer to go where the manure is already in a pile rather than gathering it from around the paddock.
The reason is that the dung beetles are very active in summer here and beat us to the manure very quickly.
So, if you have a manure stockpile, and would like to donate it to a worthy cause, please ring us on 46812962.
The aim of the Whistle Stop Garden is to promote inclusiveness, social connectedness and ethical food production.
We pursue physical health and emotional wellbeing through the medium of gardening.
It is not clear why, but being active in an outdoor setting in a non-competitive occupation is very beneficial for our mental health.
At the garden we teach and learn from one another and everyone is welcome.
You don't need gardening experience. Or, if you are a person who loves gardening but can no longer garden for physical reasons, we have a place for you here too.
The Whistle Stop Garden decided at a planning meeting recently that we do not have the man power to run our own markets this year.
However, look out for our stall at the Artwork Granite Belt markets. The first one is on Saturday, February 18, from 8am- 12 noon in the railway precinct.
Come and talk to us about volunteering at the Whistle Stop. All proceeds from our stall go towards the upkeep of the garden.
The Whistle Stop Garden is open on Wednesday and Thursday from 8am-4pm. For more information phone 46812962.
