Many sports prominent among sports star winners

SPORTS VIEW WITH GERARD WALSH

IT IS interesting to look at the versatility of many of the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Month winners in the run-up to Monday's dinner at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club.

Someone from hockey has pointed out to me that in addition to the hockey monthly winners Rob Pohlman and Adam Byrne, motor racer Jason O'Mara is a current club player and both cyclist John Eder and motor racer Matt Campbell have played a lot of club hockey in Warwick.

There are also four who have played for the Warwick Cowboys, rugby league monthly winner Brent Osborne, from Inglewood, boxer Chris Fox, hockey player Adam Byrne and roper Brock Eastwell, who played last season.

To add an extra rugby league flavour, former star Salford (England) fullback Steve Gibson is guest speaker. There has been a lot of interest in the dinner with tickets still available at the Daily News.

There are four from motorsport among the monthly winners, Matt Campbell, Rob Balint, Peter Lane and Jason O'Mara and two from boxing, Karla Grant and Chris Fox.

Golfer Sam Eaves rounds up the 12 monthly winners.

William a star

WELL done to Warwick West State School student William Day for breaking three records at the school house swimming carnival.

He set the only three records at the carnival in 10 years butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle.

Mitchell House won with 302 points from Sturt on 251 and Cordeaux on 210.

The biggest carnival of the year in swimming will be at WIRAC on Thursday night with students 12 years and older competing in the Warwick All Schools Swimming.
