Maranoa candidates: any last words?
David Littleproud, Liberal National Party
HAVING lived and worked in Maranoa all my life I'm, the product of Maranoa. Maranoa has provided me the opportunity to travel the world, have a career, start a business but, above all, raise a family in Warwick.
Maranoa is on the cusp of a new dawn: Never before have we seen the opportunities that lay ahead of us than we do now. Maranoa needs a representative that's part of a government that makes the decisions not a complaints desk, which is all independents offer.
Maranoa needs strong, stable representation to complete construction of this key infrastructure.
Sherrilyn Church, Rise Up Australia
I WAS born on a large sheep station in the Maranoa and currently own a small citrus farm, with a few chickens and ducks in Crow's Nest.
I return to the Maranoa with a deep desire to bring hope and common sense and real solutions to the farming peoples of the mighty Maranoa.
With God's help.
I am passionate about saving the remaining 70% of our farms from being owned by foreign investors.
I am determined to put the Australian farmer first, without increasing the burden of debt and our party will solve the water problem in Queensland.
Dave Kerrigan, Labor
(from ALP website)
DAVE has lived in the Maranoa electorate all his life. He was born in Longreach and has lived in Barcaldine for 32 years.
He worked in the shearing industry for many years before starting work with Queensland Health.
Dave is involved in various community groups across the electorate and has strong connections with QRL and NRL, coaching and working with young players from across the state.
He is particularly passionate about jobs and employment opportunities for young people in Maranoa, as well as health and education funding, on regional communities.
Myfanwy Schenk, Family First
(from Family First website)
I AM a stay-at-home mum and a music tutor. I live in Dalby and I am married with five small boys.
As well as home-schooling my boys, I've been involved with several community groups and am currently working with the Dalby Eisteddfod.
As a party, Family First supports jobs and your right to work, and vows to help young people get jobs, as well as defending speech and religious freedom for all.
We also support reviving the Great Australian Dream of home ownership for all and getting down our living costs and business costs so more people have jobs.
Luke Arbuckle, Country Minded
YOUNG Queensland farmer Luke Arbuckle grew up on his family's farm between St George and Goondiwindi.
Since his father's death in 2009, he has been managing the family-run enterprise comprising dry land cropping and beef cattle, and he has been involved in rural lobbying and representation to get better outcomes for his industry and region.
Country Minded candidates agree a viable rural is vital to the future of the Australian economy, and hope to re-establish old political values and foster statesmanship and real leadership to provide a meaningful and effective political conscience.
Katherine Hompes, The Greens
THE impacts of mining and coal seam gas on water security for farming communities are of great concern to me. I will champion jobs, economic stability and an effective response to climate change through The Greens' Renew Australia Plan, transitioning to clean energy and a new economy with high tech initiatives.
Lack of accessible infrastructure for communications technologies, health, education and jobs are all hampering opportunities for residents of Maranoa
I will work to ensure sustainable long-term growth for Maranoa.
Lynette Keehn,
One Nation
I AM representing One Nation Policies: They are clear and precise policies that are set out to put this nation back on its feet.
For Maranoa this means I will not stop until is is a productive inland electorate. I will oppose the selling off our farming land for foreign ownership, support higher education for every Australian, ban Halal Certification, jobs for Australians first, investigate 457 visas abuse, build infrastructure such as rail, dams, hospitals and major roads.
It will be my business to find the issues of every town and find answers for you - it will be my job to do so.
Rick Gurnett, Katter's Australia Party
FOR too long the people of Maranoa have been under-represented by the LNP and National Party.
Our telecommunications, our roads, our hospitals and even the Flying Doctors after all these years remain underfunded. Government takes the wealth from our regions and uses it to buy city votes.
For example, take the vegetation laws that have crippled some of our communities and broken some producers just for the benefit of city votes.
Maranoa needs to be represented by a party that does not depend on city for power but fights for rural and regional Australia.
