Mariners take win to book finals spot against Wanderers

A WONDERFUL Daniel McBreen strike from outside the penalty box ensured a 1-0 win for the Mariners against the Victory in last night's semi-final at Bluetongue Stadium.

The result means Sunday's grand final at Allianz Stadium will be an all-New South Wales affair, with Central Coast to line up against the Wanderers.

It also means the top two teams from the regular season will square off for Australian football's most sought-after prize.

McBreen, 36 next week, has enjoyed a vintage season, scoring his 18th goal of the season, and his 42nd minute effort will rank as one of his favourites.

The veteran scored due to an impressive lead-up run from Bernie Ibini.

Ibini was a constant thorn in the Victory's side, producing a number of shots on target.

The Victory came after the Mariners hard inside the final 10 minutes, with Andrew Nabbout producing a shot on target, before the hosts conceded a free kick in the final minute.

Marco Rojas stepped up to take the shot in good position, but it cannoned into the Mariners' wall.
