Markets an uber place for pets to find a family
FOR the Southern Downs ARK team, there’s no better place for socialising and finding new homes for abandoned dogs and cats than the Uber Markets.
Always a hit with families and animal lovers, the animal rescue group’s stall has seen many a success story and plenty of wagging tails over the past 12 months.
With new homes to be found and plenty of bonds to be forged, the ARK team hasn’t missed a monthly market yet.
President Ann Simon said the markets had been good exposure for the group.
“We get to see some of the dogs we’ve adopted out at the markets,” she said.
“We have to fundraise to pay for desexing micro chipping, feeding worming and vaccinating.”
Through the markets, ARK has been able to raise much needed money, find happy homes and recruit new foster carers.
“Some of our foster carers have three dogs each at the moment,” Ms Simon said.
“We’re always looking for more foster carers.”
At Saturday’s market, the group had nine dogs and almost a dozen cats and kittens looking for loving homes.
Unfortunately every school holidays tend to be the same for the ARK team, with families dumping their pets at the pound.
Ms Simon said ARK foster carers had been stretched to the limit after Easter.
“We’ve got 17 dogs at the moment between 30 and 50 cats and kittens,” she said.
“When the pound filled up at Easter we took on an extra five dogs.”
