CHRISTIE Russell's determination to liven up Saturdays for Warwick families has painted an uber new face for the town's market scene.

The past 12 months has seen the face painter grow her small idea into a bustling market, which draws hundreds of people to Leslie Park each month.

For Miss Russell the markets started out as a way of bringing some cheap, family fun to Warwick on a Saturday.

"There really wasn't much going on for families and there's wasn't any regular markets on a Saturday or in Leslie Park," she said.

"A lot of people come in from out of town to shop on a Saturday.

"They pop into the markets and have a look before they do their shopping."

While setting up the markets has been a challenging experience, the busy market organiser said she'd had a lot of fun along the way.

"It's been a great way to meet people," she said.

"I love going around and chatting to the stallholders.

"Quite a few of our stallholders come from out of town and do other markets on Sundays too."

While Saturday's market had fewer stalls due to the school holidays, there was plenty for families to do.

From having their faces painted to the ever popular bungee run, there were plenty of cheap activities to keep the whole family entertained.

A new addition to the market this month was tractor rides around the park with Graham Buchner.

Miss Russell said she was hoping to make more new additions to the markets in the coming months.

"We're getting a new inflatable area for the markets," she said. "It would be ready for the June market." The Uber Markets are held in Leslie Park on the second Saturday of each month from 10am to 2pm.
