Maryvale just too good in Warwick club cricket

MARYVALE Condamine and Allora both finished in the top-four last season in Warwick cricket to qualify for the A-grade finals.

On Sunday, the two teams met for the first time since last season's finals with Maryvale coming out on top.

We interview Maryvale captain Andrew Ryan about the game.

WHY WAS A WIN SO IMPORTANT: We would like to win the minor premiership so every win is important. I wanted a good start to the season and we now have three wins from three games.

The pitch was a bit damp early after the covers were laid following rain during the Saturday game at Slade Park so I batted first hoping the ball would move around a bit more when the weather warmed up later in the day.

My theory about it being better to bowl later didn't really pan out but we won the game anyhow.

SO HOW DID IT PLAY OUT: We batted first and openers Jason Steketee and Dave Walker put on 83 for the first wicket.

We were consistent right down the order and we finished 5-223.

Allora then started with a good second-wicket partnership between Mitch McLennan and Gavan Scheiwe who took the score towards 50. Allora was 2-64 at drinks after 20 overs so we were on top in regards to run rate.

KEY MOMENT: Cam Masters came in at No.4 and was batting aggressively and could have turned the game around for Allora a bit.

He made a quick 35 and was caught by a diving catch by Will Gordon off the bowling of Tom Bourke. Will took three catches on the day in the offside. He is up there with the best fieldsmen in Warwick.

HOW DID THE YOUNGER BRIGADE GO: They all went well with bat and ball. Joe Gordon came in at the end to hit a quick 22 and Tom Bourke took three wickets to finish off Allora.

Tom's brothers Pat and Kieran play along with their cousin Mitch Bourke and Joe's brothers Will and Pat. Our youngest player is Pat who is a promising young keeper.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WEEK: There is no cricket on Rodeo Weekend but there could a few sledges between rivals at the bar at the rodeo. We play Redbacks in our next game in a fortnight.
