Elderly masseur on alleged rape charges gets bail
A MASSEUR charged with rape and sexual assault tried in vain yesterday to dodge a waiting media pack outside Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
The man left the courthouse through a fire escape door after making his first appearance on the charges.
Surrounded by cameramen and journalists, he attempted to walk through the adjoining fast-food store carpark before changing tack and walking back in the opposite direction.
Dressed in a neat grey suit and sunglasses, he made no comment to any questions.
The man had appeared in court on one count of rape and eight charges of indecent assault.
The alleged offences date back to 2011 and involve seven women who were allegedly assaulted while the man was running a massage market stall.
He was not required to speak during yesterday's court appearance.

Maroochydore CIB officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said police were continuing their investigations.
The man was initially charged with three offences relating to two women but further charges were laid after more women came forward.
Police continue to appeal for any women who have attended massage stalls at Sunshine Coast markets and believed they may have been a victim of assault to contact police at Maroochydore CIB on 5475 2429 or Policelink on 131444.
