Massive ferris wheel rolls into Warwick for the show
BIRDS are usually the lucky ones to get a stunning aerial view of Warwick, but this weekend you won't need wings to see it.
Australia's biggest travelling ferris wheel has rolled into town for the Warwick Show, marking the first time the popular sideshow attraction has visited for the annual event.
Standing 28 metres high with 20 carriages, it's an imposing presence at the Warwick Showgrounds.
Owner Dean Davis said the ferris wheel could be enjoyed by people of all ages.
"You'll be able to see from one side of town to the other, being so high,” he said.
"It might give people a new reason to come to the show this year to see something new and exciting.”
The wheel also delights at night time, as it is covered in 40,000 LED lights that illuminate in different colours when the sun goes down.
Mr Davis has owned the wheel for eight years, driving it from Melbourne to Cairns to feature at shows almost every weekend.
It takes five people two days to assemble.
The finishing touches were put on the show rides yesterday with judging for the agricultural awards also taking place.
Show vice-chairwoman Kelli Mullins said the new kids activity shed and the return of the show rodeo on Saturday night would be two highlights of the weekend.
"Warwick always hosts a very big showjumping competition and our cattle are always very popular,” she said.
"It's always a massive task to pull together and you can't do it without hundreds of volunteers.”
Today is People's Day with children under the age of 14 gaining free entry when accompanied by an adult.
Warwick Show runs from today until Sunday.
