Massive nominations for CAMS championships
MOTOR RACING: Numbers are way up to 180 for round 2 of the CAMS Queensland Motor Racing Championships at Morgan Park Raceway this weekend.
Club official Mike Reynolds said the number of nominations was 60 more than round 1.
"We are running three championship rounds this year,” he said.
"Two of the biggest categories are production sports and sports sedans.”
Some specific car clubs use the state championships as part of their own championships, including the saloon car group.
Warwick driver Jamie Furness is going well in his first year in saloon cars.
Drivers will be in Warwick for the state championships this weekend from as far away as North Queensland.
This weekend is the second of eight in succession when motorsport will take pride of place at Morgan Park.
"The number of meetings is good news for the town,” Reynolds said.
"The superbikes round last weekend went well and we are ready to sign a two-year deal with ASBK and the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland for more national series.”
Sixty volunteers will help run this weekend's meeting. Free admission.
Matt fourth
WARWICK driver Matt Campbell is fourth in the standings in his first season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Europe.
With three races left and a maximum of 60 points on offer, Campbell is on 92 points, eight behind the third placegetter.
He was fifth at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium last weekend and will compete on one of the world's most famous tracks at Monza in Italy this weekend. The Mobil 1 Supercup round will be held in conjunction with a Formula One round.
