Match review committee looks at controversial BRL call
MORE could be known after 3pm today about the results of an inquiry into an alleged incident in a physical BRL game at Wallangarra on Saturday.
The TRL match review committee has met to discuss the incident in which Wallangarra player Marc McGrady was placed on report after a heavy tackle.
The referee stopped the game and awarded Stanthorpe a win after it led by 12 points with 19 minutes to go.
The match review committee will tell the Wallangarra club the outcome before going public.
This incident is only the second from the BRL to be put to the committee this season.
BRL president Dolly Bennett said she had spoken to officials in Toowoomba who told her they had no problem with the referee calling off the game.
"The referee was doing his job, he was in charge and that is how he saw it," Bennett said.
She said there had not been post-game discussions in relation to Stanthorpe being awarded the match competition points.
TRL Referees' Association president Rick Carter confirmed his association also covered the BRL area and provided referees.
"We have referees from all over the place, there are plenty of referees this season," he said.
